Migrant Service Awards

In keeping with its goal of fostering excellence in Migrant Education, the Association for Migrant Educators of Texas will honor and recognize dedicated and deserving contributors to Migrant Education. 

 

Awards will be given to TX-NGS Data Entry Specialists/Recruitment Staff, Parents, Educator / Administrators/Paraprofessionals/Support Staff and MEP Teams for their distinguished service in Migrant Education through their active participation, leadership, and commitment.  


Nominations will be solicited statewide. Persons wishing to make a nomination should submit a description of their nominee’s accomplishments on the Migrant Service Award Nomination Form.

Nomination Form

 

Award Name: Foundations Award

Category: New Generation System (TX-NGS)/ Recruitment Staff

Who is eligible: Staff who enter TX-NGS Data and or recruitment staff who sign Certificates of Eligibility for the Texas migrant education program.

 

Recommendation for nominations should indicate how the person being nominated demonstrates three or more of the following:

  • Recent attendance to training for TX-NGS or MSIX.

  • Evidence of being a team player

  • Examples of how they affect change in the workplace

  • Willingness to learn and educate others

  • Qualities or characteristics that make this person deserving of an award.

  • How the individual serves as a role model/mentor to others

  • Increased or maintained recruitment numbers in the ISD/ESC

  • Implemented innovative recruitment strategies

  • Example(s) of how they recruited and encouraged migrant families that may have been reticent about registering into a migrant program

 

Criteria for Selection:

  • Service as NGS Specialists/recruitment staff for no less than 12 months.

  • Mention of on-the-job training or professional credentials attainment

  • Addressed at least 3 or more bullets from the above list

  • Past migrant or current migrant history or similar background is a plus​

Award Name: Everyday Heroes Award

Category: Parent

Who is eligible: This category reflects a key component in the success of all our migrant students and makes our job as educators so much easier. A parent who has a current COE, migrated within the last 2 years, and has children in school K-12.  

 

Recommendation for parent nominations should indicate how the person being nominated demonstrates any of the following:

  • Opportunities parents have provided for their children.

  • How parents have served as role models/mentors for their children or others.

  • Personal sacrifices that parents have made to benefit their children.

  • Qualities or characteristics that make the parent deserve an award.

 

Criteria for Selection:

  • COE submitted is within stated guidelines.

  • Migration history is within stated guidelines.

  • Children's schooling is within stated guidelines.

  • Volunteerism to the community or school a plus.

  • Leadership role in the community or school a plus.​

Award Name: Servant Heart Award

Category: Educators/Administrators/Paraprofessionals/Support Staff:

Who is Eligible: Persons who provide outstanding support for the migrant education program including all service delivery client-facing staff who have actively participated in the migrant education program (i.e., teachers, facilitators, strategists, counselors, coordinators, directors, home educators, and instructional assistants) who work in the migrant education program.  

 

Recommendations for being nominated should include three or more of the following for consideration:

  • Examples of collaborative work with staff, stakeholders, community, or other entities.

  • Examples of work performed for the migrant community.

  • Examples of nominees' accomplishments with students who participate in the migrant education program, methods and strategies used, and resources made available to students and their families to assist them in reaching their goals (examples of their outcomes).

  • Examples of having developed new strategies to encourage mentoring or tutoring or the use of available educational support services.

  • Examples of how the nominee motivated students to increase or maintain passing rates in school.

  • Example(s) of how they encouraged migrant families and children to make use of migrant educational program services.

  • Qualities or characteristics that make the nominee a good role model for other professionals, migrant students, their families, the community, and schools.

 

Criteria for Selection:

  • Nominee must have been with ISD/ESC for at least 3 school years.

  • A school or state agency's certification or degree in an educational role is a plus.

  • Service to his/her community is a plus.

  • Addressed at least 3 or more bullets from the above list

  • Migrant history background or first-generation background is a plus.​

Award Name: Dream TEAM Award

Category: TEAM Recognition. In recognition of the extraordinary efforts that Teams make on behalf of Texas migratory students, the AMET planning committee is accepting nominations for the Dream TEAM Award in Migrant Education.

Who is Eligible: The award recognizes MEP TEAMS of migrant personnel in schools, districts, or ESCs who have contributed significantly to the advancement and/or implementation of the Texas Migrant Education Program through their active participation, dedication, and commitment. No more than one outstanding TEAM will be recognized. The TEAM will be honored at a general session during the AMET Conference.

Recommendations for being nominated should include three or more of the following for consideration:

 

  • Examples of collaborative work with staff, stakeholders, community, or other entities.

  • Examples of work performed for the migrant community.

  • Examples of the team’s accomplishments with students who participate in the migrant education program, methods and strategies used, and resources made available to students and their families to assist them in reaching their goals (examples of their outcomes).

  • Examples of having developed new strategies to encourage mentoring or tutoring or the use of available educational support services.

  • Examples of how the team motivated students to increase or maintain attendance in school.

  • Example(s) of how they encouraged migrant families and children to make use of migrant educational program services.

  • Examples of seeking external funding for migrant education.

  • Examples of the team’s presentations at local, state, regional, or national conferences.

  • Qualities or characteristics that make the team good role models for other professionals, migrant students, their families, the community, and schools.

 

Criteria for Selection:

  • At least one team member must have been with a school agency ISD/ESC for at least three school years.

  • Certification or degree by a school or state agency in each educational role is a plus

  • Addressed at least 3 or more bullets from the above list

  • Community Service/volunteering in their community is a plus.

  • Migrant history background or first-generation background is a plus.

  • Commitment to attend the State Conference is a plus.
